Elimination of the consequences and restoration of damage to the narrow-gauge railway Septemvri - Dobrinishte
National Railway Infrastructure Company
Belitsa – Razlog section, km. 104+665
A collapse of rock slopes was carried out on an area of 2,500 m²;
TECCO high-strength steel mesh was installed on an area of 1,890 m²;
Installation of 50 anchors to strengthen the system was carried out;
Activities have been carried out to secure the railway from falling rocks and landslides;
All activities are carried out via rope access by certified technicians for working at height;
The works were carried out taking into account the specific conditions of the railway infrastructure.
We carried out emergency restoration and safety works on the railway in the Belitsa – Razlog section on the narrow gauge Septemvri – Dobrinishte – one of the most picturesque, but also technically challenging railway routes in Bulgaria.
The project was implemented with the aim of eliminating the consequences of landslides and rock falls, which compromised the railway and created a risk to the safety of railway traffic.
In the initial stage of implementation, the rock slopes were demolished, during which unstable and eroded rock masses were removed. This activity is key to preventing subsequent landslides and to providing a stable foundation for the reinforcement systems.
After stabilizing the slopes, a high-strength steel mesh type TECCO was installed, designed to effectively contain rock fragments and limit their movement towards the railway.
To further strengthen the system, anchors were installed, which ensure reliable fixation of the mesh to the rock massif and guarantee long-term sustainability of the implemented solution.
All activities were carried out using rope access (industrial mountaineering), which allowed work in difficult-to-reach and steep sections without interrupting the railway route and without using heavy machinery.
