Struma Motorway from km 8+260 to km 8+480
A compromised protective network was dismantled, demolished and rebuilt with a new network over an area of 200 m²;
Existing networks were dismantled in areas with accumulated rock masses ("pockets"), cleaning, demolition and restoration of an area of 2,300 m² was carried out;
Demolition, double-twisted hexagonal mesh and anchoring of new sections with an area of 1,300 m² have been completed;
About 200 m³ of collapsed rock masses were loaded and transported over a distance of up to 20 km;
All activities were carried out via rope access by certified technicians for working at height;
The works were carried out without interrupting traffic on the motorway.
We carried out activities to restore, maintain and further strengthen existing rockfall protection systems on a section of the Struma motorway, characterized by steep rockfalls up to 120 meters high.
The project was aimed at removing compromised sections of already constructed protection systems, as well as restoring their functionality in order to ensure traffic safety on the motorway.
During the implementation, areas with damaged networks were identified, as well as sections in which the protection systems were filled with rock masses, forming so-called “pockets”, which create additional load and risk of rupture.
In the first stage, the dismantling of compromised networks was carried out, followed by the collapse of the rockfalls and the restoration of the sections by installing new protection networks.
In the areas with filled nets, controlled dissolution of the existing systems was carried out, cleaning of the accumulated rock masses, followed by collapse and restoration of the nets to their original state.
Additionally, new sections were completed with collapse, double-twisted hexagonal mesh and anchoring, in order to further strengthen the slopes.
All generated rock masses were loaded and transported off-site, which ensured complete cleaning of the area and restoration of normal operation of the facility.
The activities were carried out via rope access (industrial mountaineering), which allowed safe work on the high and difficult-to-access slopes without interrupting traffic on the motorway.
