We implemented a project to secure and strengthen rock slopes on road II-16 in the Mezdra – Rebarkovo section, in the area of the village of Eliseyna – an area with pronounced mountainous relief, steep slopes and an increased risk of landslides and falling rocks.
The main goal of the project was to improve the safety of the road infrastructure by removing unstable rock masses and limiting the risk of accidents on one of the key transport routes in the region.
In the initial stage of implementation, the terrain was cleaned by cutting down trees, bushes and vegetation, which provided the necessary access to the rock slopes and created conditions for safe work.
Then, the rock slopes were demolished, during which eroded and unstable rock masses were removed. This activity is key to preventing future landslides and preparing the surfaces for subsequent strengthening.
In the final stage, the slopes were netted with steel protective nets, which ensure effective containment of falling rocks and limit their reach to the roadway.
All activities were carried out via rope access (industrial mountaineering), which allowed effective work in hard-to-reach areas without the need for heavy mechanization and without interruption of traffic.
