A total of 12 rock sections critical to traffic safety were bypassed and processed;
The work was carried out by certified height workers, specializing in rope access work (alpine method);
The total area of the collapsed and secured rock slopes amounts to 12,000 m²;
Dangerous trees, bushes and vegetation overhanging the roadway have been removed;
The collapsed rock masses, cleaned, loaded and transported, are 280 m³;
The project was completed without closing the road, with temporary traffic management in place.
“Vertical Group” Ltd. carried out a complex of specialized activities for the demolition, cleaning and securing of rock slopes using rope access (alpine method) in one of the key road sections in the country – road II-82 Sofia – Samokov.
The project was implemented with the main goal of preventing rock collapses, falling rocks and unstable rock masses, which as a result of natural erosion processes, atmospheric influences and temperature amplitudes create a serious risk to traffic safety.
Within the framework of the assigned safety activities, 12 separate sections with a total area of 12,000 m² were bypassed. The slopes were manually demolished from heavily eroded and unstable rock blocks, and the slopes were cleaned of vegetation, bushes and dangerously overhanging trees above the roadway.
All activities were carried out by certified industrial climbers and height workers specializing in rope access and alpine method work. This method allows for fast, safe and cost-effective execution of high-altitude activities in hard-to-reach and risky areas, without the need to build scaffolding and work platforms or use heavy machinery.
Road II-82 Sofia – Samokov has a high traffic intensity, especially during the winter season, as it provides access to one of the largest ski resorts in Bulgaria – Borovets. Additional significance of the activities carried out is given by the fact that the route is part of the route of the international event Giro d’Italia, which will pass through Bulgaria in 2026.
The works on collapsing and securing the rock slopes were carried out without complete closure of the road, with a temporary traffic organization introduced, regulated by road signs and signalmen. During the implementation of the activities, the necessary heavy machinery was provided for the collection, loading and removal of the collapsed rock mass and vegetation.
