VERTICAL GROUP Ltd. successfully completed a project to strengthen and secure a rock slope in the immediate vicinity of the Alpinist’s House in the city of Vratsa – an emblematic place related to the history of alpine movement and mountaineering in Bulgaria.
The project covers an area of approximately 4,000 m² and includes specialized activities to stabilize the rock massif through rope access and industrial mountaineering.
The investor of the project is “ALPIN PROPERTY GROUP”, which implemented a complete renovation and restoration of the site.
The works performed included:
scaling of unstable rock sections;
cleaning of surface erosion;
securing of risk zones;
installation of double-twisted hexagonal wire mesh;
stabilization of the rock mass.
The main goal of the project is to limit the risk of rockfalls and erosion processes in the area around the building and the adjacent spaces.

Before the installation of the stabilization system, the following was performed:
manual scaling of unstable rock masses;
removal of eroded and compromised sections;
clearing the slope of loose rocks and debris.
These activities are an important part of preparing the rock mass before the installation of stabilization meshes and ensure better long-term stability of the slope.
Following the site preparation, a double-twisted hexagonal wire mesh was installed to reinforce and stabilize the rock slope. Such systems are widely used for:
securing rock slopes;
limiting erosion processes;
protection against rockfalls;
stabilization of rock masses in infrastructure and urbanized areas.
The use of stabilization meshes allows for the long-term securing of risk areas and the protection of adjacent spaces.
The Mountaineer’s House in Vratsa is a site of symbolic importance for the Bulgarian alpine movement and the mountaineering community. The stabilization activities performed are an important part of the overall renovation of the area and contribute to: increasing the safety of the site, limiting the risk of rockslides, stabilizing the rock mass, and ensuring the long-term protection of the building and the surrounding areas.
Work on rock masses requires a high level of technical preparation and strict adherence to safety measures. During the execution of the project, the following were used:
dual-safety systems;
certified rope access equipment;
personal protective equipment (PPE);
positioning systems;
preliminary risk assessment;
emergency procedures and a rescue plan.
All activities were performed by qualified technicians with experience in working on rock slopes and in hard-to-reach environments.
The project for the reinforcement and securing of the rock slope near the Mountaineer’s House in Vratsa is an example of the effective application of rope access and industrial alpinism when working on complex rock terrain.
Thanks to the specialized stabilization systems and professional execution, the activities contribute to the long-term stability and safety of the area around one of the symbolic sites for the alpine community in Bulgaria.
