NETWORKING OF ROCK SLOPES ON ROAD II-16 NOVI ISKAR – SVOGE

Project:

Securing rock slopes on Road II-16 Novi Iskar – Svoge

Contracting Authority:

Trace Roads EAD

Location:

Road II-16 Novi Iskar – Svoge

Trees and shrubs were cut down and the terrain was cleaned over an area of 9,460 m²;

The collapse of the eroded rock slopes and the removal of the unstable rock masses have been completed;

After cleaning the areas, they are covered with steel protective nets with a wire thickness of 3 mm;

The nets are anchored at the top of the slopes with anchors every 1 meter and are additionally reinforced with metal ropes;

All activities were carried out via rope access by certified technicians for working at height;

The works were carried out without closing the road as part of a temporary traffic management project.

We implemented a project to secure and strengthen rock slopes in the Novi Iskar – Svoge section of road II-16 – an area known for its complex relief, steep slopes and increased risk of landslides and falling rocks.

The project is aimed at increasing the safety of the road infrastructure by removing unstable rock masses and limiting the risk of accidents in one of the key road sections in the Iskar Gorge.

In the initial stage of implementation, the terrain was cleared of trees, bushes and vegetation, which provided access to the rock slopes and created conditions for the safe implementation of subsequent activities.

Then, rock slopes were demolished, removing unstable and eroded rock masses. This step is key to preventing future landslides and preparing the surfaces for reinforcement.

In the final stage, the slopes were netted with steel protective nets, which ensure effective containment of falling rocks and limit their movement towards the roadway.

All activities were carried out via rope access (industrial mountaineering) by certified height workers, which allowed safe and effective implementation in hard-to-reach areas without the need for heavy mechanization.
