Road II-58 Chernoochene – Asenovgrad
Rock slopes were collapsed and unstable rock masses were removed over an area of 17,800 m²;
A fence has been installed with steel protective nets with a wire thickness of 3 mm, with the total area of the fenced areas being 12,000 m²;
The safety nets are anchored at the top of the slopes with anchors at a distance of 1 meter;
To further strengthen the protective system, metal ropes with a thickness of 12 mm were installed horizontally and vertically;
All activities are carried out via rope access (alpine method) by certified rope access workers;
The activities were carried out without stopping traffic on the road as part of a temporary traffic management project.
We implemented a project to secure and stabilize rock slopes in a section of the republican road II-58 Chernoochene – Asenovgrad – an area with pronounced mountainous relief and an increased risk of rockfalls and falling rocks.
The main goal of the project was to increase the safety of the road infrastructure by cleaning unstable rock sections and limiting the risk of accidents caused by falling rocks on the roadway.
As part of the implementation, large-scale rock slope demolition was carried out, during which unstable, eroded and dangerous rock masses were removed along the section. This activity provided the necessary preparation of the terrain for subsequent reinforcement.
After stabilizing the slopes, they were meshed with steel protective nets, which play a key role in retaining detached rock fragments and limiting their movement towards the roadway.
In view of the difficult terrain and steep rock sections, all activities were carried out by rope access (industrial mountaineering) by teams of certified height workers. This method allowed for safe, efficient and precise execution of the works at height, without the need for heavy mechanization or significant traffic disruption.
The implementation of the project contributes to the long-term safety of the rock slopes, reducing the risk of road accidents and ensuring more reliable operation of road II-58 – an important transport link in the region.
