ANCHORAGE OF A RETAINING WALL AT THE “CHAIRA” DAM

The anchors used to anchor the retaining wall are IBO R38 with lengths of 5 meters;

The drilling for the anchors is carried out with lightweight carriages, and their cementing is carried out with an injection pump;

The designed structure is divided into three sections resting on a common foundation;

A drainage system has been built at the base of the wall to drain water;

The backfill is filled with coarse crushed stone Ø100 - Ø 200, compacted in layers of 50 cm;

A surface drainage ditch has been constructed. The asphalt surface of the road has been restored and a new elastic barrier has been installed.

We successfully completed a project to anchor and strengthen a retaining wall in the Chaira dam area, with the aim of stabilizing a landslide area above a service road to the 6th bichkia. The client of the site is National Electric Company EAD. The project was implemented on an engineering – design and implementation basis.

The main goal of the intervention is to secure and long-term stabilize a landslide terrain that threatened the road infrastructure and the normal operation of the dam facility.

Within the framework of the project, a reinforced concrete retaining wall was built, anchored in two rows – horizontally and vertically in the slope, thus achieving a high degree of stability of the structure.

High-strength self-drilling anchors type IBO R38 with a length of 5 m were used, implemented by drilling with lightweight drilling equipment and injection cementing with a pumping system. The structure is divided into three sections, resting on a common foundation designed to redistribute the loads from the landslide massif.

An effective drainage system has been built at the base of the wall to drain groundwater, in order to prevent reactivation of landslide processes. The backfill is filled with coarse crushed stone with a fraction of Ø100–Ø200 mm, compacted in layers of 50 cm to ensure stability and drainage function.

Additionally, a surface drainage ditch has been built, the asphalt coating of the service road has been restored and a new elastic protective barrier has been installed to increase road safety.
