Strengthening of a weak point from km. 266+960 to km. 267+235 on the Plovdiv - Burgas railway line
G.C.Effe - Generale Construzioni Ferroviarie
village of Balgarovo, Burgas region
High-strength elastic barriers for capturing rock blocks from the Italian company Geoprotection have been installed;
A barrier with a height of 3 meters and a length of 70 meters, model AC 500 AC, has been built above Road 1, taking a dynamic load of 500 Kj;
A barrier with a height of 4 meters and a length of 150 meters, model AC 1000 AC, has been built above Road 2, absorbing a dynamic impact of 1000 Kj.;
The supporting structure of the barriers is held by rope anchors of type 1x37 Ø 16 with a length of 5 meters, injected with cement in holes Ø 90;
The drilling for the anchors was carried out with lightweight carriages by technicians certified to work using the rope access method;
The barrier interception structure consists of mesh panels of the interconnected ring type with 6 contact points at a ring diameter of 350 mm and a thickness of 12 mm;
The rock slopes above the elastic barriers are secured with a double-twisted hexagonal mesh anchored at the top of the trench;
The "pocket" walls under the barriers, which over the years have absorbed landslides of earth and rock masses, have been cleaned.
We have implemented a project to strengthen a weak spot on the Plovdiv – Burgas railway line in the section from km. 266+960 to km. 267+235, in the area of the village of Balgarovo, Burgas region. The client of the project is “Gi Chi Effe – Generale Construccioni Ferroviarie”. The project is part of the large-scale modernization of the railway infrastructure, financed under the Operational Program “Transport” of the European Union.
The purpose of the implementation is to stabilize a heavily eroded trench excavation in the immediate vicinity of the railway, with a slope height between 20 and 50 meters, and to provide long-term protection against falling rock and earth masses.
Within the framework of the project, high-strength elastic protective barriers from the “Geoprotection” system were delivered and installed:
The supporting structure of the systems is anchored by rope anchors type 1×37 Ø16 with a length of 5 m, fixed in Ø90 mm drillings filled with cement mortar. The drilling works were carried out with lightweight drilling equipment, adapted for difficult-to-access terrain and work in the immediate vicinity of the railway line, including the application of rope access methods.
The rock mass retention system includes mesh panels of interconnected steel rings with six precise connections, with a ring diameter of 350 mm and a wire thickness of 12 mm, providing high energy absorption and resistance to impact loads.
The completed reinforcement activities guarantee reliable protection of the railway infrastructure from landslides and falling rocks, significantly increasing the safety of operation in the critical section.
